Sea-breeze fronts pushing inland from the Atlantic routinely collide with Gulf-fed moisture above the flat, wet interior of Palm Beach County, and The Acreage sits squarely beneath that collision zone. When wind shear arrives — carried by winter cold fronts, the subtropical jet, or the rainbands of a passing hurricane — ordinary showers can begin to rotate, which is why tornadoes here belong to every part of the calendar.
The written record spans generations. An F1 tornado moved through on February 26, 1952, when much of the surrounding land was still ranch and swamp. An F3 that struck on October 19, 1958, killed a resident and injured 24 people along a track near 20 miles long, and another F3 arrived on January 24, 1979.
