Altamonte Springs sits in Seminole County along the Interstate 4 corridor just north of Orlando, and its tornado history splits along seasonal lines. Florida's summer sea-breeze thunderstorms have spun up brief, weak tornadoes here — like the EF0s and an EF1 that touched down on June 6, 2020 — while the area's destructive tornadoes have arrived with the squall lines of winter and early spring.
That cool-season threat has struck repeatedly. On March 13, 1993, an F2 tracked 30 miles through the area, killing one person and injuring 60. On February 23, 1998, a series of F3 tornadoes swept central Florida: one killed 25 people and injured 150 along a 28-mile path, a second killed 13 and injured 36, and a third killed 3 and injured 70. On February 2, 2007, an EF3 carved a 26-mile path up to 450 yards wide, killing 13 people, injuring 51, and causing $98 million in property damage.
