Plantation's brush with strong tornadoes goes back to April 10, 1956, when an F3 injured 20 people along a 7.8-mile path, and another F3 on June 18, 1959 injured 77, and yet another F3 struck on February 23, 1965. The March 2, 1980 F3 turned deadly, killing 1 person and injuring 33 across a swath up to 500 yards wide. Later entries ran long rather than intense: an F2 tracked 52.5 miles on March 17, 1983, and an F2 covered 21 miles on February 3, 1998. The Doppler era added an EF2 on October 19, 2011, an EF2 that injured 2 people on September 28, 2022, and a tornado on October 9, 2024.
