Pinecrest, a leafy community on the coastal ridge of Miami-Dade County, sits fully inside this environment, and its tornado history samples each of those storm types.
The benchmark events came at mid-century. An F3 tornado tore through the area on April 10, 1956, injuring 20 people along a 7.8-mile track. On June 18, 1959, an F3 injured 77 while carving a 12.7-mile course. Decades later, on March 27, 2003, an F2 nearly 600 yards wide killed one resident and injured 14 others. The modern era has added its own entries: an EF1 tracked 2.93 miles through the vicinity on October 9, 2024.
