About Tornadoes in Palm Springs

This overview was written July 29, 2026. The tornado counts and notable-event figures elsewhere on this page reflect the latest data and may differ from this summary.

Palm Springs sits in central Palm Beach County, a few miles inland from Florida's Atlantic coast, and its tornado history reflects that setting: brief touchdowns spun up by warm-season thunderstorms, and longer-tracked tornadoes when tropical weather crosses the peninsula in fall.

On October 9, 2024, an EF3 tornado injured seven people along a 32.89-mile path as wide as 457 yards, causing $81,450,000 in property damage; the same day, an EF2 stayed on the ground for 65.49 miles and caused $16,500,000 in damage. Two autumns earlier, on September 28, 2022, an EF2 tracked 6.98 miles and injured two people, with additional tornadoes touching down nearby that day. An EF2 on April 29, 2023 carved a 2.61-mile path 320 yards across, and an EF2 on August 19, 2008 caused $1,250,000 in damage along a 2.72-mile track.

The Fujita-scale era left its own marks on the area. An F2 on October 14, 1964 injured 22 people, and an F1 on August 7, 2003 injured 28 along a four-mile path some 300 yards wide. An F2 on March 17, 1983 traveled 52.5 miles and caused $2,750,000 in damage, and a midwinter F2 on January 13, 1979 produced $2,750,000 in damage of its own. More recently, an EF0 touched down on May 12, 2025.
