About Tornadoes in Palm Coast

This overview was written July 29, 2026. The tornado counts and notable-event figures elsewhere on this page reflect the latest data and may differ from this summary.

Palm Coast lies along Florida's northeast Atlantic coast in Flagler County, and its tornado history reflects the two engines of Florida severe weather: strong cool-season and springtime storm systems, and tropical cyclones that spin up brief tornadoes in late summer and fall.

The storm-system side of that ledger runs deep. An F3 tornado injured nine people along a 3.6-mile path on April 15, 1958, and another F3 carved a 13.1-mile track through the area on February 7, 1971. On April 4, 1973, an F2 traveled 39 miles, injuring four people. A deadly F2 struck on December 5, 1977, killing one person and injuring ten along a 9.4-mile path. Later, on April 24, 1995, an F2 plowed a 10-mile path up to 350 yards wide, injuring five people and causing $2,750,000 in property damage.

The tropical influence shows up plainly in the calendar. Tornadoes touched down around the area on September 14, 2001, in early and late September 2004, and again on September 10 and 11, 2017, when an EF2 tracked 1.2 miles on the 11th. More recently, an EF2 touched down on October 12, 2023, cutting a mile-long path 200 yards wide, and an EF0 followed on July 21, 2024.
