Oak Ridge sits in Orange County just south of Orlando, in the interior of the Florida peninsula, and its tornado experience splits along the seasons. The cool months have produced violent, deadly tornadoes here, arriving with organized storm systems that sweep across Central Florida. On April 4, 1966, a deadly F4 killed 11 people and injured 530 as it carved a 135.8-mile path across the region, and an F2 tracked 123.3 miles that same day. On February 23, 1998, F3 tornadoes tore through the Orlando area: one killed 25 people and injured 150 along a 28-mile track, while another took 13 lives. The cool-season threat has persisted — on March 10, 2025, an EF2 cut a 4-mile path roughly 300 yards wide, causing $3,900,000 in property damage.
Summer is a different matter. Florida's sea-breeze thunderstorms regularly spin up brief, weak tornadoes around Oak Ridge, and the warm months are dotted with EF0 touchdowns — as on July 8, 2017 and June 6, 2020, the latter date also producing an EF1.
