About Tornadoes in Naples

This overview was written July 29, 2026. The tornado counts and notable-event figures elsewhere on this page reflect the latest data and may differ from this summary.

Naples sits in Collier County on Florida's southwest Gulf coast, and most of the tornadoes that have touched down nearby have been brief, weak storms. The area has seen far more serious weather, though. On November 9, 1968, an F2 tornado tracked 45.6 miles on a path roughly 100 yards wide, killing two people, injuring 17, and causing $27,500 in property damage. Just two days later, on November 11, 1968, another F2 carved a much narrower track 65.4 miles long, injuring three people and doing $275,000 in damage. Earlier that decade, an F2 struck on May 10, 1962, injuring one person along a short path.

More recent activity has leaned toward weaker tornadoes tied to the region's summer thunderstorms and tropical systems. EF0 tornadoes touched down on both June 23 and June 24, 2012, during one active stretch of the wet season, and September has produced repeated touchdowns over the years, including an F1 on September 19, 2004, an EF0 on September 29, 2015, and EF0 tornadoes on September 26, 2024. The cooler months are not exempt either: EF0 tornadoes touched down on January 16, 2022, and again on March 12, 2022, in the heart of Southwest Florida's dry season.
