About Tornadoes in Marion Oaks

This overview was written July 29, 2026. The tornado counts and notable-event figures elsewhere on this page reflect the latest data and may differ from this summary.

Marion Oaks sits in southwest Marion County, south of Ocala in north-central Florida, and tornadoes around the community follow a distinctly Floridian rhythm. Warm-season thunderstorms produce brief, weak touchdowns — EF0 tornadoes struck on back-to-back days, June 6 and 7, 2020 — while deadly tornadoes have come with cool-season storm systems.

On February 2, 2007, an EF3 tornado carved a 10.5-mile path up to 450 yards wide through the area, killing 8 people, injuring 10, and causing $52,000,000 in property damage; a second EF3 on the same date injured 15 along a 5.67-mile track and did $62,000,000 in damage. Earlier decades brought comparable cool-season violence: an F3 on December 31, 1975, killed 1 person and injured 26 along a two-mile path, an F3 on April 9, 1983, killed 3 and injured 2 on a ten-mile track, and an F2 on January 7, 1995, killed 1 and injured 20 as it ran 12 miles at up to 440 yards wide.

The threat has not faded. An EF2 on October 12, 2023, tracked 5.6 miles through the area, and as recently as May 13, 2025, a tornado touched down near the community.
