About Tornadoes in Lynn Haven
This overview was written July 29, 2026. The tornado counts and notable-event figures elsewhere on this page reflect the latest data and may differ from this summary.
Lynn Haven occupies a peninsula between North Bay and Deer Point Lake in Bay County, on the Florida Panhandle just north of Panama City. Tornadoes here have often arrived with cool-season storm systems — the dates in the local record lean heavily toward winter and early spring — though early fall has produced its share as well.
The area has seen genuinely dangerous storms. On December 10, 1967, an F3 tornado cut a 7.1-mile path roughly 250 yards wide, killing one person, injuring 50, and causing $2,750,000 in property damage. On January 12, 1975, an F2 that traveled 168.5 miles passed through the area, killing one person and injuring 33; an F1 the same day injured 12 more. On September 15, 2004, an F1 with a 5-mile path killed one person and injured seven.
More recently, January 9, 2024 brought multiple tornadoes to the area in a single day: an EF3 carved a 5.2-mile path up to 550 yards wide and caused $15,350,000 in damage, while an EF2 tracked 12.89 miles, injured two people, and did $5,000,000 in damage. EF2 tornadoes also struck on April 10, 2021 and March 18, 2022, each causing $500,000 in damage, and an EF0 touched down on October 27, 2025 — a reminder that in this corner of the Gulf Coast, tornado season never fully closes.
