About Tornadoes in Lake Worth Beach

This overview was written July 29, 2026. The tornado counts and notable-event figures elsewhere on this page reflect the latest data and may differ from this summary.

Lake Worth Beach sits on Palm Beach County's Atlantic shoreline, and its tornado dates trace the rhythms of South Florida weather: brief warm-season touchdowns, winter squall lines, and more serious tornadoes arriving in September and October, the heart of hurricane season.

On October 14, 1964, an F2 tornado injured 22 people on a short but intense track, with F1 touchdowns in the area the same day. Winter has produced damaging events too: on January 13, 1979, an F2 caused $2,750,000 in damage, and on March 17, 1983, an F2 tracked 52.5 miles through the region, injuring two. Summer carries its own hazard — on August 7, 2003, an F1 with a path 4 miles long and 300 yards wide injured 28 people, and on August 19, 2008, an EF2 ran 2.72 miles and caused $1,250,000 in damage.

The tropical connection showed again on September 28, 2022, when an EF2 tracked 6.98 miles and injured two people while EF1 and EF0 tornadoes touched down nearby that day. On April 29, 2023, an EF2 up to 320 yards wide caused $250,000 in damage. Then, on October 9, 2024, an EF3 carved a 32.89-mile path as wide as 457 yards, injuring seven and causing $81,450,000 in property damage, while a separate EF2 the same day traveled 65.49 miles and caused $16,500,000 in damage. An EF0 touchdown followed on May 12, 2025.
