Jasmine Estates sits in Pasco County on Florida's Gulf Coast, north of Tampa Bay, and its tornado history carries that coastal signature: the area's events cluster in the summer months of June through August, with a second thread of cool-season tornadoes arriving in the November-to-February window.
On April 4, 1966, a violent F4 tornado carved a 135.8-mile path some 300 yards wide through the region, killing 11 people and injuring 530. Long-tracked tornadoes have also come in the cooler months: an F2 on November 1, 1973 traveled 27.9 miles and injured 17 people, and an F1 on February 19, 1974 tracked 45.9 miles and injured 55. Summer has produced destructive events as well, including an F2 on July 12, 1992 that injured 6 people along a 4.5-mile path.
Recent years have kept both seasons in play. A series of EF1 tornadoes moved through the area on November 2, 2018, and on October 12, 2023 an EF2 cut a 4.97-mile path roughly 300 yards wide, causing $500,000 in property damage. An EF1 followed on January 9, 2024, a reminder that this stretch of the Gulf Coast faces tornado weather across the calendar.
