Jacksonville Beach occupies a slender barrier strand on the Atlantic coast of Duval County in northeast Florida, and tornadoes have touched its surroundings in every season — midsummer sea-breeze storms, late-summer tropical weather, and sharp cool-season fronts alike.
On June 8, 1957, an F2 tornado carved a 6.4-mile path through the area. Winter is no refuge on this coast: an F2 on February 25, 1960 injured two people despite a track of barely a tenth of a mile, and EF1 tornadoes struck on December 24, 2020 — Christmas Eve. On May 12, 1974, an F2 injured two people along a 4.3-mile path and caused $275,000 in property damage.
The year 2001 showed both ends of the scale here: an F2 stayed on the ground for 12 miles on March 29, while on June 11 a small F0, with a path just a tenth of a mile long, killed one person. In early September 2004, at the height of hurricane season, F0 tornadoes touched down on three consecutive days, September 5 through 7, with more following on September 26. Activity continues into the present era: an EF1 passed through on July 7, 2021, and an EF0 touched down on May 29, 2025.
