Holiday sits in southwestern Pasco County on Florida's Gulf Coast, just across the Anclote River from Tarpon Springs, where warm Gulf moisture feeds frequent thunderstorms. Many of the area's tornadoes spin up briefly in summer sea-breeze storms, but spring and cool-season weather systems have also brought destructive tornadoes to this stretch of coast.
An F4 tornado struck on April 4, 1966, killing 11 people, injuring 530, and tracking 135.8 miles along a path up to 300 yards wide, with $27,500,000 in property damage. An F3 hit on May 4, 1978, killing 3 people and injuring 94 along a 1.5-mile path. On October 3, 1992, an F3 carved a 2.6-mile track 500 yards wide, killing 3 and injuring 75, while an F2 the same day claimed 1 life.
More recent seasons have stayed active. An outbreak of EF1 tornadoes swept the area on November 2, 2018. An EF2 on December 16, 2020 tracked 13.11 miles and caused $16,000,000 in damage, and another EF2 ran a 4.97-mile path on October 12, 2023, accompanied by additional EF0 touchdowns the same day. Tornadoes have continued into 2025, with an EF1 on June 25 and an EF0 on September 25 of that year.
