Ferry Pass sits in Escambia County in the far western Florida Panhandle, just north of Pensacola along the shore of Escambia Bay. Tornadoes have struck the area in winter, spring, summer, and fall alike, and some of its destructive storms have arrived in the cool months, when strong frontal systems sweep across the Panhandle.

On March 31, 1962, an F3 tornado killed 17 people and injured 100 along a 6.9-mile track that grew to 440 yards wide; that same day an F2 tracked 11.9 miles through the area and an F1 also touched down. On February 7, 1971, another cool-season F3 injured 112 people along a one-mile track, and on May 26, 1973, an F2 that stayed on the ground for 105.4 miles killed one person as it crossed the region.

The Enhanced Fujita era has brought intense tornadoes as well. On February 24, 2016, an EF3 injured three people and did $22,000,000 in property damage on a 2.99-mile, 300-yard-wide path, and an EF1 touched down the same day. On June 16, 2023, an EF2 cut an 8.58-mile path up to 450 yards wide, followed by an EF0 on June 17, 2023. Activity has continued into recent years, with two EF1 tornadoes on May 10, 2025 and an EF1 on October 27, 2025.
