East Naples sits in Collier County on Florida's southwestern Gulf coast, and its tornadoes mirror that setting: quick spin-ups from summer sea-breeze storms, touchdowns tied to September and October tropical weather, and occasional twisters riding cool-season fronts across the peninsula.
A destructive stretch came in autumn 1968. On November 9, 1968, an F2 tornado carved a 45.6-mile path roughly 100 yards wide, killing two people and injuring 17 more. Two days later, on November 11, 1968, another F2 tracked 65.4 miles along a path only about 17 yards across, injuring three people and causing $275,000 in property damage. Earlier that decade, an F2 on May 10, 1962 injured one person on a brief 0.3-mile track, and another F2 followed on June 10, 1962.
Fall touchdowns have continued in the years since, including an F1 on October 30, 1993, an F1 on September 19, 2004, and EF0 tornadoes on September 29, 2015 and September 26, 2024.
