About Tornadoes in Davie

This overview was written July 29, 2026. The tornado counts and notable-event figures elsewhere on this page reflect the latest data and may differ from this summary.

Davie sits in central Broward County, on the flat suburban plain between Fort Lauderdale and the eastern edge of the Everglades. Its tornadoes arrive in two seasons typical of South Florida: quick, often brief spin-ups during the summer wet months, when sea-breeze storms and tropical moisture dominate, and stronger circulations riding winter and early-spring fronts.

Destructive tornadoes are part of that history. An F3 struck on March 2, 1980, carving a 7.8-mile path up to 500 yards wide; it killed one person, injured 33, and caused $27,500,000 in property damage. An F3 on June 18, 1959 tracked 12.7 miles and injured 77 people, and another F3, on April 10, 1956, injured 20 along its own 7.8-mile path. On March 27, 2003, an F2 killed one person and injured 14 as it ran six miles, spreading as wide as 600 yards.

More recent years have brought damaging tornadoes as well. An EF2 on October 19, 2011 caused $4,000,000 in damage along a short track, and tornadoes spun up around Davie on both September 27 and September 28, 2022, including an EF2 on the 28th that traveled 6.98 miles and injured two people. Winter days have turned volatile here too, with tornadoes touching down on January 15, 1991 and again on February 16, 2016.
