About Tornadoes in Crestview

This overview was written July 29, 2026. The tornado counts and notable-event figures elsewhere on this page reflect the latest data and may differ from this summary.

Crestview, the seat of Okaloosa County in Florida's Panhandle, sits where Gulf moisture collides with cool-season fronts, and much of its tornado history has played out in fall and winter rather than in a classic springtime pattern. On January 5, 1962, an F2 carved a 2.5-mile path through the area, killing one person and injuring 30. On December 25, 1964, an F3 tracked 12.8 miles near the city and injured four people. Three years later, on December 10, 1967, an F2 a full 1,000 yards wide followed a 6.8-mile path, killing one person and injuring 50; a brief F3 also touched down that same day.

Warm-season storms have left their mark as well. On May 26, 1973, an F2 riding a 105.4-mile track passed through the region, killing one person and injuring four. An F2 on May 1, 1989 caused $27,500,000 in damage along a two-mile path, and on October 4, 1995 another F2 killed one person and injured three along a 1.8-mile track.

The area has stayed active in the modern era: an EF1 struck on April 23, 2020, and on May 10, 2024 an EF2 measuring 1,000 yards wide traveled 23.96 miles through the area, a reminder that significant tornadoes still cross this corner of the Panhandle.
