About Tornadoes in Country Walk

This overview was written July 29, 2026. The tornado counts and notable-event figures elsewhere on this page reflect the latest data and may differ from this summary.

Country Walk sits in the flat suburban reaches of southern Miami-Dade County, where sea-breeze thunderstorms and passing tropical systems both drive South Florida's tornado threat. Much of the community's tornado history clusters in June, at the start of the wet season, with more activity arriving in the September and October heart of hurricane season.

The early-summer hazard showed itself on June 18, 1959, when an F3 tornado carved a 12.7-mile path up to 333 yards wide through the area, injuring 77 people and causing $2,750,000 in property damage. Cool-season systems have produced damaging tornadoes here as well: an F2 on February 19, 1968 injured 21 people along a 5.7-mile track, an F2 on December 20, 1973 injured 9, and an F2 on February 3, 1998 stayed on the ground for 21 miles. A deadly F2 struck on March 27, 2003, killing one person and injuring 14 along a six-mile path with damage spreading up to 600 yards wide.

More recent tornadoes near Country Walk have been weaker but persistent, including an EF1 on September 10, 2017, EF0 tornadoes on September 27, 2022, and an EF1 on October 9, 2024 — dates falling squarely within the Atlantic hurricane season, a reminder of how often the tropics shape this corner of Florida's tornado risk.
