About Tornadoes in Country Club

This overview was written July 29, 2026. The tornado counts and notable-event figures elsewhere on this page reflect the latest data and may differ from this summary.

Country Club sits in northwest Miami-Dade County, on the flat suburban rim of the Miami metro where sea-breeze storms, tropical systems, and winter fronts can all spin up tornadoes. Most that touch down nearby are brief and weak, but the area's history includes destructive strikes.

An F3 tornado struck on March 2, 1980, carving a 7.8-mile path up to 500 yards wide; one person was killed, 33 were injured, and property damage reached $27.5 million. Decades earlier, an F3 on June 18, 1959 tracked 12.7 miles through the area and injured 77 people, and an F3 on April 10, 1956 injured 20 along a 7.8-mile path. Cold-season setups have also turned dangerous: an F2 on February 3, 1998 stayed on the ground for 21 miles, and on March 27, 2003 an F2 up to 600 yards wide killed one person and injured 14 along a six-mile track.

In more recent years, an EF2 on October 19, 2011 caused $4 million in damage along a short path, and stormy stretches such as February 16, 2016 and September 27-28, 2022 brought clusters of EF0 and EF1 tornadoes in quick succession. The pattern for Country Club is year-round exposure: quick, weak spin-ups in the summer wet season, punctuated in any season by the occasional strong, destructive tornado.
