About Tornadoes in Clermont

This overview was written July 29, 2026. The tornado counts and notable-event figures elsewhere on this page reflect the latest data and may differ from this summary.

Clermont, set among the lakes and sandhill ridges of south Lake County west of Orlando, has a tornado history that splits along the calendar. Summer sea-breeze thunderstorms have produced brief, weak touchdowns — EF0 tornadoes on July 4, 2018, on June 6 and 7, 2020, and again on June 6, 2024 — while winter and early-spring frontal systems have brought the area's stronger, longer-tracked storms.

That cool-season pattern runs deep in the record. An F2 on January 8, 1978 injured 23 people along a 19.3-mile track, and an F3 on March 19, 1981 ran eight miles through the area. On March 13, 1993, an F2 carved a 30-mile path, killing one person and injuring 60. A deadly F3 struck on February 23, 1998, killing three people and injuring 70 along an 18-mile path that reached 200 yards in width.

The threat has carried into the EF-scale era. An EF1 touched down on September 21, 2007, and on March 10, 2025 an EF2 tracked four miles at up to 300 yards wide, causing $3.9 million in property damage — a reminder that while Clermont's summer tornadoes tend to be fleeting, its cool-season storms remain capable of serious destruction.
