About Tornadoes in Casselberry

This overview was written July 29, 2026. The tornado counts and notable-event figures elsewhere on this page reflect the latest data and may differ from this summary.

Casselberry, in Seminole County just north of Orlando, sits in a part of central Florida where tornadoes are as much a cool-season hazard as a summertime one. The area's brief, weak tornadoes typically spin up in summer sea-breeze thunderstorms, but its intense tornadoes have tended to arrive with winter and early-spring storm systems crossing the peninsula.

That pattern turned deadly on February 23, 1998, when F3 tornadoes swept the region overnight; one tracked 28 miles on a path 250 yards wide, killing 25 people and injuring 150, and another F3 that night killed 13 and injured 36.

On February 2, 2007, an EF3 carved a 26-mile path up to 450 yards wide, killing 13 people, injuring 51, and causing $98 million in property damage.

Earlier cool-season strikes fit the same mold: an F2 on January 8, 1978 ran 19.3 miles and injured 23 people, and an F2 on March 13, 1993 tracked 30 miles, killing one person and injuring 60.

The threat has stayed current. An EF2 on August 18, 2020 cut a 4.59-mile path as much as 550 yards wide, injuring one person, and an EF2 on March 10, 2025 tracked 4 miles through the area, causing $3.9 million in damage.
