Cool-season storms have delivered damaging blows. On March 2, 1980, an F3 tornado tore a 7.8-mile path up to 500 yards wide, killing one person, injuring 33, and causing $27,500,000 in property damage. An F3 on February 23, 1965 tracked 5.7 miles and injured six people, and on March 17, 1983 an F2 traveled a 52.5-mile track through the region, injuring two.
