About Tornadoes in Bellview

This overview was written July 29, 2026. The tornado counts and notable-event figures elsewhere on this page reflect the latest data and may differ from this summary.

Bellview sits in Escambia County at Florida's western edge, just west of Pensacola, close enough to the Gulf that tornado weather can arrive in almost any month — late-winter squall lines, springtime storms, and autumn systems spinning ashore off the coast.

A deadly F3 tornado struck on March 31, 1962, killing 17 people and injuring 100 along a 6.9-mile path up to 440 yards wide, with $2,750,000 in property damage; an F2 tracked 11.9 miles through the area that same day. Winter storms have hit hard in other years as well: an F3 on February 7, 1971 injured 112 people, and on February 24, 2016 an EF3 tore a 2.99-mile path roughly 300 yards wide, causing $22,000,000 in damage.

Autumn carries its own risk here. An F3 on October 30, 1967 injured 44 people, and on October 13, 2001 tornadoes touched down repeatedly around the area, among them an F3 and an F2. An unusual event came on May 26, 1973, when an F2 stayed on the ground for 105.4 miles along a path only about 20 yards wide, killing one person.

Activity has continued into recent years: an EF2 on June 16, 2023 ran 8.58 miles with a width near 450 yards, and an EF1 touched down as recently as October 27, 2025.
