About Tornadoes in Bayonet Point

This overview was written July 29, 2026. The tornado counts and notable-event figures elsewhere on this page reflect the latest data and may differ from this summary.

Bayonet Point sits on Florida's Gulf Coast in Pasco County, and its tornado history splits along seasonal lines. The summer thunderstorm months of June, July, and August tend to produce brief, weak F0 and EF0 touchdowns, while the area's more damaging tornadoes have generally arrived with fall and winter weather systems.

That cool-season pattern runs deep. On November 9, 1968, an F2 tornado tracked 29.6 miles through the area, injuring four people. On November 1, 1973, another F2 carved a 27.9-mile path and injured 17. And on February 19, 1974, an F1 tornado stayed on the ground for 45.9 miles at widths up to 167 yards, injuring 55 people and causing $2,750,000 in property damage.

Summer is not always so gentle: an F2 tornado on July 12, 1992, cut a 4.5-mile path and injured six people. The holidays have brought trouble too — on December 25, 2006, an F2 struck on Christmas Day itself, injuring two along a track less than a mile long.

The cool-season threat persists. A cluster of EF1 tornadoes moved through on November 2, 2018, and on October 12, 2023, an EF2 tore a 4.97-mile path up to 300 yards wide, causing $500,000 in property damage. Activity has continued since, with an EF1 on January 9, 2024, and an EF0 on July 20, 2024.
