Pomona lies in the Pomona Valley at the eastern edge of Los Angeles County, and its tornado history follows the rhythm of Southern California's wet season: most of the area's tornadoes have arrived in the cooler months between November and March, when Pacific storm systems drag cold, unstable air across the basin.
On November 9, 1982, an F2 tornado plowed a 10-mile path up to 1,300 yards wide through the area, inflicting $2,750,000 in property damage; a second tornado, rated F0, touched down the same day. Cool-season F1 tornadoes have struck in other years as well — March 17, 1977, January 31, 1979, and January 14, 1993 among them — and an F1 on November 25, 1965 shows the same pattern reaching back decades. Not every event has kept to that calendar, though: an F0 touched down on September 7, 1976, and another on June 16, 1995.
