On November 7, 1966, an F2 tornado cut a 10.3-mile track about 50 yards wide through the Monrovia area, injuring 10 people and doing $275,000 in property damage.
That storm fits the local rhythm: tornadoes near Monrovia ride cool-season Pacific systems into the San Gabriel Valley, where the city backs up against the San Gabriel Mountains in Los Angeles County. November brought another destructive twister on November 9, 1982, when an F2 plowed a 10-mile path that swelled to 1,300 yards across and left $2,750,000 in damage. A few months later, on March 1, 1983, an F2 ran 3.5 miles on a track 100 yards wide, injuring 30 people and causing $27,500,000 in property damage; an F0 touched down the same day.
