Mead Valley lies in western Riverside County, in the inland valleys between Riverside and Perris, and its tornado history follows the rhythms of Southern California weather — cool-season Pacific storms, springtime instability, and surges of late-summer moisture.
On May 22, 2008, an EF2 tornado struck the area, tracking 2.8 miles along a path up to 75 yards wide, injuring one person and causing $350,000 in property damage. EF0 tornadoes were confirmed nearby that same day, and another EF0 followed on May 23, 2008.
Cool-season systems have produced much of the remaining activity. An F0 touched down on January 20, 1982, and a pair of F0 tornadoes spun up on March 20, 1991. The opening months of 2005 brought a run of touchdowns: an F0 on January 10, an F1 on February 19, and additional F0s on February 26 and March 4. Spring events include an F0 on April 6, 1955 and another on May 13, 1998.
