El Dorado Hills sits in the Sierra Nevada foothills of western El Dorado County, east of Sacramento, and its tornado history follows the rhythm of Pacific storm season: touchdowns here have come in autumn, winter, and spring, when cold, unstable systems push across the Sacramento Valley and up into the foothills.
An F2 tornado struck on February 7, 1978, carving a 1.9-mile path roughly 20 yards wide and causing $275,000 in property damage. Other cool-season touchdowns of the F-scale era carried F0 and F1 ratings: an F0 on October 15, 1972, F1s on March 22, 1983, and April 19, 1988, and F0 touchdowns on February 21, 2005, with more on April 8, 2005.
The pattern has held in the EF-scale era. EF0s touched down on February 25, 2007, and again on that same calendar day in 2011, February 25.
