Claremont sits at the eastern edge of Los Angeles County, pressed against the San Gabriel foothills where the Pomona Valley opens toward the Inland Empire. On November 9, 1982, an F2 tornado tore a 10-mile path up to 1,300 yards wide through the area, causing $2.75 million in property damage; a second tornado that same day was rated F0. Other cool-season touchdowns include an F1 on March 17, 1977, and an F1 on March 16, 1986, while an F0 on August 14, 2004, showed that even the dry season is not entirely immune.
