Texarkana straddles the Arkansas–Texas state line in Miller County, in the Red River valley of far southwestern Arkansas, and tornadoes have touched its landscape in every season of the year.

Spring has brought the area's violent days. On March 13, 1971, an F4 tornado carved a 5.1-mile path up to 880 yards wide, killing one person and injuring five. On April 2, 1982, an F3 tracked 18 miles through the area, killing five people and injuring four, while a second F3 that day ran 52 miles and killed one. Decades earlier, on April 30, 1954, an F3 passed through the region on a 111.6-mile track.

Cool-season tornadoes belong to the local story as well. An F2 struck on February 12, 1950, killing one person and injuring eight along an 8-mile path. On October 13, 2014, an EF2 killed one person and injured four. And on November 5, 2022, an EF3 plowed a 15.65-mile path as much as 800 yards wide, causing $7,000,000 in property damage.
