About Tornadoes in Sherwood

This overview was written July 28, 2026. The tornado counts and notable-event figures elsewhere on this page reflect the latest data and may differ from this summary.

An EF4 tornado tore a 41.1-mile path across central Arkansas on April 28, 2014, killing 16 people, injuring 193, and causing $223,450,000 in property damage — the kind of April day that shapes how Sherwood and its Pulaski County neighbors regard severe weather. The area felt that pattern again when an EF2 touched down on November 5, 2022, and once more on March 31, 2023, when an EF3 injured 54 people along a 34.23-mile track through the Little Rock metro.

Older storms cut just as deep. An F4 on April 11, 1965 killed 6 people and injured 200, and on March 1, 1997 an F4 killed 10 along a 14-mile track while another F4 the same day injured 180.

Nor is the danger confined to spring on the north side of the Arkansas River valley. An F3 on December 2, 1982 killed 2 people and injured 53, and an F3 on January 22, 1999 killed 3 and injured 72 along a 39-mile path — cool-season strikes that bookend the region's long warm-season threat. Activity has continued in recent years, with an EF1 on April 20, 2025 and an EF0 on June 12, 2025.
