Conway sits in Faulkner County in central Arkansas, just north of the Arkansas River, and its tornado history is anchored by violent spring events. An F4 struck on April 11, 1965, killing 6 people and injuring 200 along a 4.7-mile path. On February 5, 2008, an EF4 tore a 121.84-mile track through the region, causing 13 deaths and 139 injuries, and on April 28, 2014 another EF4 killed 16 people and injured 193 along a 41.1-mile path. April 25, 2011 brought an EF2 whose path stretched 51.32 miles and spanned 2,900 yards, causing 4 deaths, and on March 31, 2023 an EF3 injured 54 people and caused $90,000,000 in property damage along a 34.23-mile track.

The danger here is not limited to spring. F3 tornadoes swept the area on December 2, 1982; an F3 on January 22, 1999 killed 3 people and injured 72 along a 39-mile path; and storms on November 27 and 28, 2005 produced F2 and F3 tornadoes around the city.
