About Tornadoes in Fairhope

This overview was written July 28, 2026. The tornado counts and notable-event figures elsewhere on this page reflect the latest data and may differ from this summary.

Fairhope occupies the eastern shore of Mobile Bay in Baldwin County, Alabama, where tornadoes tend to ride in on cool-season fronts and on tropical systems moving ashore from the Gulf — the local tornado history is dotted with October, November, and December dates as much as springtime ones.

An F3 tornado struck on November 3, 1968, injuring 18 people along a 70.4-mile track that spread to 400 yards wide and caused $275,000 in property damage. Decades later, October 13, 2001 brought both an F3 that grew to 440 yards across and an F2 to the area on the same day.

The modern EF era has kept the same rhythm around Mobile Bay. On March 9, 2011, a pair of EF2 tornadoes moved through, one of them injuring four people. An EF2 on December 25, 2012 carved a 5.15-mile path and did $1,350,000 in property damage. Late October 2022 saw EF0 and EF1 tornadoes touch down on back-to-back days, October 29 and 30, and the cool-season pattern carried into recent years when an EF1 struck on October 27, 2025.
