Enterprise lies in the Wiregrass region of southeastern Alabama, straddling the Coffee-Dale county line in a corner of the state where tornado season never fully closes: the storms around this city have arrived in spring, in the depths of winter, and in late autumn alike.

On March 1, 2007, an EF4 tornado tore a 10.33-mile path up to 500 yards wide through the Enterprise area, killing nine people, injuring 50, and causing $250 million in property damage.

Winter has hit hard here as well. An F2 tornado on January 13, 1972 killed four people and injured 88 along a 6.3-mile track, and an F2 on December 16, 2000 killed one person and injured nine on a 4.5-mile path. More recently, an EF2 on January 3, 2017 cut a 7.82-mile swath 500 yards wide, causing $550,000 in damage.

Late autumn brings its own danger: an F3 on November 26, 1986 stayed on the ground for 44 miles and injured four people, while F2 tornadoes on November 15, 2006 tracked 15.81 and 19.78 miles across the area, one of them 650 yards wide. Activity continues into the present, with an EF1 passing through on March 9, 2024 and an EF0 on March 31, 2025.
