East Florence sits in Lauderdale County along the Tennessee River in the far northwest corner of Alabama, and its tornado history falls into two seasons: the spring months of March through May, and a cool-season stretch that runs from November into February.

Spring has produced deadly storms here. An F4 tornado struck on May 18, 1995, killing 3 people and injuring 32 along a 29-mile path as much as 1,000 yards wide, with $2.75 million in property damage. On April 28, 2014, an EF3 killed 2 people and injured 30 on a 15.56-mile track. Long-track spring tornadoes appear in the earlier history too: an F3 injured 22 people along a 29.8-mile path on March 17, 1965, and another F3 traveled 32.3 miles through the area on April 22, 1972. More recently, an EF2 on March 25, 2023 caused $3.9 million in property damage on a 3.82-mile path, an EF3 touched down on May 9, 2024, and on April 6, 2025 an EF1 injured 5 people along a 28.8-mile track, causing $3.4 million in damage.
