Center Point lies in Jefferson County on the northeastern edge of Birmingham, central Alabama terrain that violent tornadoes have crossed again and again. An F4 struck on April 15, 1956, killing 25 people and injuring 200 along a 21.3-mile path. An F5 tore through on April 4, 1977, killing 22, and another F5 on April 9, 1998 killed 32 people and injured 259 along a 30.3-mile track. On April 27, 2011, an EF4 with an 80.68-mile path killed 64 people and injured 1,500 as it swept across the region, while another EF4 that same day tracked 97.33 miles and killed 22.
Many of those blows landed in spring, but Jefferson County's tornado threat runs deep into the cold months. An F4 struck on November 18, 1957, and an F4 on November 24, 2001 injured 22 people. An EF3 on January 26, 2021 killed one person and injured 30, and an EF2 arrived on December 25, 2015. Activity has continued in recent seasons: an EF2 tracked 39.48 miles on March 15, 2025, and an EF1 touched down on November 25, 2025 — a reminder that around Center Point, dangerous tornado weather can arrive in nearly any month of the year.
