Glenville lies on Cleveland's east side, an older residential district set in the flat Lake Erie lowlands of northeastern Ohio. This corner of the Great Lakes sees tornadoes as part of its summer severe-weather pattern; they are far less common than across the plains, but the area's history shows they do occur.
The setup is a warm-season one. When humid air over the region turns unstable under strong heating and an upper-level disturbance adds wind shear, thunderstorms can organize and sometimes produce tornadoes.
