The local chronology follows that beat. An F4 carved a 26.9-mile path through the area on May 22, 1952, injuring 3 people. On May 21, 1957, an F5 tore a 69.4-mile track across the metropolitan fringe, killing 44 and injuring 207, a storm that shaped severe-weather awareness around Kansas City for a generation. The calendar's grip can slip, though: an F3 killed 2 people and injured 18 on January 24, 1967, proof that winter setups here can turn dangerous.
